Battelle Not Hacked!
By David A. Utter
Staff Writer Article Date: 2005-12-22 Looks like "The Search" has turned up a bizarre technical problem, as the home page for BattelleMedia.com now pulls up a page titled RocknGo instead. Author John Battelle won't be real happy when he gets up and sees what's happened with his homepage. Pandia noted the defacement that has taken place at Battelle's site. Only the homepage has been changed, but this is what comes up at just before 8 am ET from his site: ![]() [redacted] Pandia pointed out that the problem probably stems from technical error rather than intentional actions by an outside party. "The fact that both sites are hosted at the same domain servers leads us to believe that this is caused by a technical error," the report said. UPDATE! John Battelle and Scot Hacker from Birdhouse Hosting wrote in to request clarification of the issue with battellemedia.com. The erroneous web page displayed at battellemedia.com this morning was due to an unfortunate Apache config issue that Hacker fixed with "a 2-second edit to apache's httpd.conf." As the site was not hacked, we've honored Battelle's and Hacker's request to update this story and the title to reflect this new information. Battelle and other customers of Birdhouse Hosting are delighted with their service and have no plans to switch to other hosts.
